Are you professionally trained?
I have a Bachelors degree in Architecture and Design, and a Masters in Architecture from the University of Western Australia.
Should I study?
That is totally your choice - I did not study architecture to further my illustration goals, it happened organically. That being said, if you want to do something, you have to do it! Put the effort in and practice every day, and you’ll grow and improve.
I just can’t draw like you!
Ok, so not a question, but something that a surprising amount of people will say. The most important thing to remember is that you aren’t going to be an expert over night, much like any other skill it takes years to hone and find your niche or style.
‘Draw in your style’ and ‘Inktober’ are great incentives to get you drawing and exploring what styles and techniques you like.
What materials and pens / pencils do you use?
I am a sketcher at heart, I have countless pieces of scrap paper with scribbles and sketches. Usually I use non waxed baking paper, as its transparent and you can layer / develop your work easily without a lightbox, but I also recently started doing more artwork with Procreate.
Other than that, I simply try to buy eco-friendly.
Are you taking commissions?
